I gently held the fish that had jumped on my lap, thinking maybe at least something would care about my existence. My life had been a constant struggle lately; I had lost my job, my girlfriend, and my family was barely acknowledging my existence. The only reason I was on this road trip was to escape the suffocating loneliness of my life. As I drove, I couldn’t help but notice that everything around me looked beautiful, yet my mind was so clouded with negativity that I couldn’t appreciate the scenery. With each passing mile, I felt like I was sinking deeper into despair. The fish on my lap seemed to be the only thing keeping me company, and even that was short-lived as it soon took its last breath. I was alone once again, just like the sea that stretched out before me – beautiful, but empty.
